SWQ in Cornwall New Year Party on Saturday, 12th January 2008.
The promised sun never appeared, and it rained on-and-off all day. This did nothing to damped the spirits of the 46 ladies who arrived at Tresillian Village Hall in anticipation of a good time. Our New Year Parties in Cornwall are legionary.
We started the morning with an array of quizzes, all good fun and plenty of prizes for the wining teams. We listened intently to the music, mostly ‘Fifties’ and ‘Sixties’, much humming could be heard around the hall as we recalled the name of the tune. We scratched our heads as we tried to remember where we had seen that quay or tower in our county and then for various place names connected with quilting. Finally we had to ‘Name that Sweet’, not that any of us would admit to eating them these days. And of course we played ‘Pass the Parcel’, a favourite on these occasions.
This was followed by lunch – need I say any more. Lunch at Tresillian is always a Feast. Everyone brings a plate of wonderful food with them. I always enjoy the egg sandwiches and I must complement the maker of the meringues.
In the afternoon we were entertained by Jo Colwill with stories from her childhood and later years, illustrated with some of her wonderful quilts. We were full of admiration for the design and workmanship. We could have sat there for hours listening to Jo. She has such enthusiasm for quilting and inspired us all to make a real effort in 2008 to get quilting.
Many thanks to the Cornish Committee Members who organised the day and to ‘Threadbear’ of Falmouth which provided a stall for all those ‘necessary’ purchases on these occasions.
I am really looking forward to this years programme in Cornwall, lots of interesting workshops and members meetings.
